Let’s go back about four years when I was a naïve little shit and started really getting into cosmetics. I was just like everyone else watching these youtube guru’s and expecting them to tell me how to spend my money because they were “obviously right”. I cannot tell you how much money I wasted on pore smoothing primers that they had recommended that broke my face out to all hell. Not only pore smoothing but ones that were mattifying, hydrating, or ones that claimed to make my face look naturally better long term as well. My skin hated me and in return I started to dislike myself because I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I knew what priming was and I knew it was better for your skin because it created that barrier between your skin and the foundation you were putting on. But why was my skin freaking out so terribly? Turns out I should have actually done my research and figured out that what I was using was not considered to be non-comedogenic. In plain terms that means its going to make your skin look smooth as a baby’s ass but it’s going to clog every single pore you have and it WILL break out sorry. From then on I did my research and I have found primers that can help out with nearly every skin type. These are just my recommendations and what have personally worked for me but all these primers I’m going to mention do have skincare benefits to them which will help you out in the long run.
First one on my list is the First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer. This primer is useful for all skin types and is considered a 2-in-1 moisturizer with makeup gripping primer benefits. It beautifully hydrates even the most driest of skin but it is oil free as well so combination skin types can still benefit from it. Superfood ingredients act as a nice multi vitamin for the skin and coconut extract helps to replenish and hydrate areas of the face that need it. This primer is non-comedogenic so your pores will not suffer after a long day of wearing foundation. You can even wear it alone on bare skin as a nice iridescent moisturizer for all day luminosity. I love to wear this primer when using a sheer to medium coverage foundation because it will still allow the luminosity to peak through giving you a dewier look.
For my oily to combination skin friends this next one is definitely right up your lane. It is the Ole Henriksen Counter Balance Oil Control Hydrator. That’s definitely a mouth full but the name describes exactly what the product does. The counter balance line from Ole is an innovated green line that not only helps with controlling the most oily of skin types but it doesn’t dry the skin out because it gives you oil free hydration. It includes a botanical blend that acts as an antiseptic which helps to fight against active breakouts. It can be used as an everyday moisturizer or a primer that can help makeup last for up to eight hours. It is also non-comedogenic and will keep your pores clear and healthy as can be. If you’re not particularly oily but you are more on the enlarged pore side this can also work to smooth over pores but not make your foundation cling onto any dry patches.
This next primer isn’t from a skincare brand however I can honestly say that the skincare ingredients are on point. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer is one of my favorite cosmetic brand primers. This too is infused with coconut water and other probiotics which help to replenish stressed out skin and bring back it’s natural radiance. The coconut scent is absolutely amazing but never artificial and it helps to soothe redness prone skin. It is considered for all skin types but when my skin is more on the oilier side I don’t reach for this as much. I would definitely say normal, dry, and combo dry skin can use this but my oilier skin friends I would give it a try. I believe you can purchase this product in a travel size at Sephora so if this product interests you but tend to be more oily I would give the trial size a go.
The last one on my list is the Boscia Porefecting White Charcoal Mattifying Primer. Key word to this one is pores and holy hell does it work. It helps to balance and detoxify the skin, even the most problematic. Witch hazel helps to tighten the pore walls and also be a natural remedy for acne prone skin. Throughout the day it helps to treat active acne under foundation but also helps to keep new acne from forming because its detoxifying. All skin types can use this because of it’s balancing properties from the white charcoal. White charcoal is considered the more oil free hydrating charcoal while black charcoal is the oil absorbing and pore clearing charcoal. Boscia uses a blend of both in the majority of their products to make sure that the skin is balanced and never stripped of essential oils made to hydrate the skin. It also works really well to slough off dead skin cells and brighten dull skin.
I hope these products were useful recommendations and if you have any other question’s feel free to leave a comment and ask me. Also if you have other skincare primers that you’re crazy about definitely let me know I’m always looking for new ones to try! Side note I have been feeling a little on the lazier side due to having a bitchin migraine the past couple of days but I’m dedicated to getting out at least three more posts this weekend. One being an updated post on migraines and all that. Okay bye.
